On Friday, 9th May 2025, MGL Wealth Management Ltd was delighted to co-host the Charity Golf Day alongside Mitchells Grievson Chartered Accountants at the stunning Headlam Hall Hotel & Golf Course — all in support of PAPYRUS – Prevention of Young Suicide.
Under clear blue skies and on a beautifully kept course, six teams took to the fairways for a friendly yet competitive round of Texas Scramble. With adjusted handicap rules (10% of total team handicaps), the format encouraged tight competition — and it delivered, with only two shots separating the top four teams.
After 18 holes, Team Hutchinson and Team Talman found themselves tied for first place. With excitement building, the winner was decided through a thrilling putt-off challenge. Each player faced a tricky, long downhill putt, with the closest attempt claiming victory. A composed stroke from John Dixon sealed the deal for Team Hutchinson.
🏆 Winning Team – Team Hutchinson
🥈 Runners-Up – Team Talman
On the day, additional prizes were up for grabs. John Dixon claimed Nearest the Pin on Hole 3, and James Caruthers took the honours on Hole 7 (the picturesque pond hole).
Following the golf, players were treated to a delicious two-course lunch — a perfect end to a fantastic morning. Special thanks go to Headlam Hall for their exceptional hospitality and their generous prize donation of a six-month club membership, which helped boost fundraising efforts.
Through the generosity of players, donors, and supporters, the event raised around £800 (with Gift Aid) for PAPYRUS, whose mission is to prevent young suicide and provide life-saving support to those in crisis.
Barry Talman, Director at MGL Wealth Management Ltd, commented:
“We’re incredibly proud to have hosted this special day alongside Mitchells Grievson in support of PAPYRUS. The sense of community, generosity, and fun shared among everyone who attended was heart-warming. A huge thank you to all who took part, contributed, and made the day so memorable. Together, we’ve helped shine a light on a very important cause.”
All proceeds from the event go directly to PAPYRUS, whose HOPELINE247 service provides confidential support for young people struggling with thoughts of suicide. Every £10 raised could fund a potentially life-saving conversation.
