MGL Wealth Management Celebrates Inaugural Charity Golf Day Success at Headlam Hall

14 May 2026

MGL Wealth Management Ltd is proud to announce the resounding success of its inaugural Charity Golf Day, held recently in partnership with Mitchell’s Grievson Chartered Accountants. The event, hosted at the picturesque Headlam Hall, brought together clients from both companies and raised over £800 for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide.

Under clear blue skies and on an immaculate course, seven teams of four competed in a high-stakes Texas Scramble format. The competition was fierce, with the handicap system ensuring a level playing field for all skill levels—ranging from seasoned 7-handicappers to players who had only ever played a handful of times.

A Competitive Spirit for a Great Cause

The final leaderboard was incredibly tight, with four teams finishing on a score of 53. The teams were split by just a couple of decimal points; however, Team Mitchell’s (captained by Nigel Rea and featuring James Carruthers, Tony Clark, and Martin Cummings) claimed the inaugural trophy.

They narrowly beat last year’s reigning champions, captained by Chris Hutchinson. Third place was tied by teams captained by Andrew Park (including Mark Elsdon, Ben Weston, and Gary Womersley) and Barry Talman (including Dave Burton, Steve Elliott, and Richard Fenwick).

Individual brilliance was also on display, with Gary Womersley and Keith Bateman securing "Nearest the Pin" honors on the 3rd and 7th holes, respectively.

Supporting Youth Mental Health

Beyond the fairways, the primary focus of the day was supporting the vital work of PAPYRUS. With suicide remaining the leading cause of death for people under 35 in the UK, the funds raised will directly contribute to suicide prevention services and life-saving outreach.

"We couldn't have asked for a better day," said Barry Talman, Director of MGL Wealth Management. "The generosity of our clients, partners, and friends has been overwhelming. To raise over £800 for such a critical cause while enjoying the stunning setting of Headlam Hall made for a truly memorable event."

MGL Wealth Management extends its sincere thanks to Headlam Hall for their hospitality and for donating a membership for the day’s fundraising draw, won by Paul Crompton.
